Keep Your AC Free from Dirt and Debris

Posted On: June 18, 2018

Our air conditioners are hard at work this summer trying to keep our homes cool and comfortable. Because it’s running so much, you want to keep it running smoothly. But, dirt, leaves and even animals can get into your AC unit and wreak havoc, which can block air flow and keep your system from operating efficiently.

To avoid damage and expensive repairs, here’s how you can protect your unit from unwanted dirt and debris:

Plants
  • Keep plants at least two feet away from your air conditioner. Try to minimize the amount of leaves and other plant material that can blow inside.
  • Avoid blowing grass clippings near your unit. Grass clogs are one of the most common causes of air conditioner blockage.
Animals
  • Check for signs of animals living in your unit. Birds, squirrels, rabbits and other small animals can make themselves comfortable in your air conditioner. Keep an eye out for droppings and nesting materials.
Moisture
  • Keep your air conditioner away from roof run offs and any other places where water can drip onto the unit. You can also protect it with an awning and prevent the potential damage of rust and mold growth.
Fences
  • If you have a fence, make sure it doesn’t block the air flow. There should be plenty of space between the slats to allow for air flow.

If your unit isn’t working properly, call us or schedule your next service call online. Our expert technicians will inspect your unit and help you with any necessary repairs.
