Often overlooked, your water heater is a vital appliance to your home. You rely on it to provide your family with hot water for showers, to wash clothes, and do the dishes. When your water heater stops working your comfort level drops. That is why Genz-Ryan is here to help get you back to your standard of comfort. Like all appliances, your water heater requires maintenance and needs to be cleaned on a regular basis to ensure its life expectancy.

Why do I need to flush my water heater?

You get your car’s oil changed regularly, why not get your water heater flushed regularly?

Most appliances are built to last a certain number of years with routine maintenance. To prevent your water heater from giving out before the end of its life expectancy, it is crucial to get your water heater flushed regularly to remove the sediment build up. When sediment builds up in your water heater it can cause the water to take longer to heat up since the sediment is resting on the bottom of the tank, above the burners. Taking more time to heat your water equals a higher energy cost. Sediment buildup can also cause hot spots and can damage the tank causing premature failure. Without flushing, sediment buildup can even make its way into your pipes, creating one gross situation.

When do I need to flush and fill my water heater?

It is a good rule of thumb to flush and fill your water heater annually. All U.S. American water heater tanks should be drained and flushed free of sediment every 12 months to bring your water heater back to original manufacturers specifications and potentially avoid invalidating your manufacturer’s warranty.
