Why Choose A Mini-Split System?

A ductless mini-split is a form of heat pump system with separate internal units for different rooms, each attached to the central outdoor unit via refrigerant lines instead of ducts. If you’re unfamiliar with heat pumps, think of them as similar to an air conditioner, where by heating and cooling refrigerant with fans and compressors, you can move heat around. In an AC, this is used to produce cool air inside which is pushed through ducts, but in a ductless mini-split this can be used like a normal air conditioner (with separate internal units pushing cold air) or reversed to move heat into your home in the winter. This lets you control each room on an individual basis, for personalized comfort.

Dan was very knowledgeable, efficient and cost-aware. I’ll be getting a new water heater and softener tomorrow!

Ryan answered all my questions, was very prompt and did a great job of putting in 2 outlets in my garage. Took much less time that I thought it might.

Mark was thoughtful and offered great solutions; he was able to suggest and install a great light over my workbench that makes such a difference!

Sean was on time, very knowledgeable about the electrical situation we had and corrected a dangerous situation. It bolstered the confidence we have in the technicians at Genz Ryan.

Mason was knowledgeable and thorough. When he wasn't sure of something, he knew exactly who to call to get answers and everything proceeded smoothly. Once again, this instilled confidence that Genz-Ryan selects high quality folks to do the work.

He was flexible with time and I feel assured that we’ll get through the warm weather with no problems. He was great to work with.

Eulises and Cam were a great team; very professional and competent. They showed me the inside of the water heater via camera so it helped in making the choice for a solution. I asked to observe how the water filter was changed out in case I might need to do it myself someday. They were very accommodating and patient as I took pictures of the process. They also found a small gas leak in a pipe and repaired it.
I continue to be impressed by the technicians at Genz-Ryan!

I keep updating this same post meeting the most cheerful and friendly guys over the last ten years.

10/22/25: Eulises sure knows his plumbing! He was able to diagnose the problems with our water softener and put together a fix that was in our budget. I appreciate all the time he took out of his day when I'd originally just had him out to drain the water heater and take a look at it.

Got a bunch more work planned on the house now, and since I don't plan on moving in the next ten years I'll be sleeping better. Thanks Eulises 5*s, my guy!!

9/10/2025: Larry Ross came out bc my furnace wasn't turning over and we'd just had a bunch of work done with Genz on the AC unit + thermostat. It was a pretty simple issue, took about 15 minutes for him to figure it out and apply the fix, and there was no charge! That's greatly appreciated obviously bc of the previous work done, but I was honestly expecting a charge for the sorry notice house call. Lovely that a great guy like Larry has that kind of discretion in a company as big as Genz. 5*s, Larry thanks man!!

8/2025 I had Jay Nelson, HVAC, out to install a new thermostat and to get an estimate on a new AC unit. Fantastic service, super knowledgeable, and I signed right away for the new unit and upgrades to our current system. Jay made it easy and we chatted through the options.

What I really appreciated was his honesty and, most importantly, I never felt pressured or "sold to". Great guy 5*s would highly recommend!!!

We also had an electrician, Joseph White, come out to look at the electrical panel, which has only been updated since the late seventies by amateurs. We've got dead outlets and fire hazards bc of it.

It's all getting replaced and upgraded too!! Joseph was also GREAT throughout the whole process, and I swear this company only hires guys and gals that I'd like to hang out with when my house isn't falling apart.

Fantastic and holistic service all around. Why go somewhere else? Good stuff dudes

Frequently Asked Questions

See All FAQs

How do you get rid of hot and cold spots in your house?

First, ensure your vents are open and unobstructed in the areas where you notice temperature differences. If your vents are clear, consider other factors that may work against your HVAC system, like broken window and door seals, poor insulation, and dirty ductwork. Temperature zoning can also make a huge difference because it’ll allow you to have multiple thermostats to tailor temperature control to each area.

How do I know which type of heating system to pick?

There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to heating, so you’ll want to choose based on your budget, preferences, and goals. Heat pumps and ductless mini-splits can be expected to cost significantly more than furnaces at similar sizes on the front end, for example, but generally require less maintenance, last longer, offer better efficiency, and provide a gentler and more comfortable heat. You might also want to consider your current heating system and what you’d need to do to implement a particular form of heat; if you don’t already have ductwork, a furnace is suddenly far less cost-effective upfront.

Do heat pumps and mini-splits work when it gets really cold?

A heat pump or ductless mini-split system will still work to heat your home as temperatures reach freezing, but they start to lose efficiency and need to work harder to provide the same level of heat. Below freezing, you’ll see efficiency the same as or worse than a furnace, and as the temperature lowers, the furnace will pull ahead substantially. Of course, a heat pump is as much as 3 to 4 times as efficient as a furnace during optimal temperatures, so it’s still a great investment for efficiency!

Can I rewire my own house?

Rewiring your home without falling out of code, to say nothing of the actual technical difficulties and safety concerns, can be extremely difficult without proper training. While it may not be technically impossible to do so, it’s easy to end up breaking the law, harming yourself, or damaging your property in the process. We recommend always leaving it to a certified electrician.

Can I use multiple heating systems together?

If it makes sense for your home, yes! Many homes have both a heat pump and furnace to maintain high efficiency no matter the weather, with reliable on-demand heat when you need to get the temperature up quickly.Heat pumps can pull double duty for cooling, so it’s not much different from the way a traditional air conditioner connects to your furnace’s air handler.
