Are you hearing sounds coming from your basement or attic? Before you call someone for help, let us help you investigate the sounds that are coming from your furnace.

  1. Booms & Bangs

Did you hear a loud boom coming from your furnace? You are most likely hearing a delayed ignition. When too much gas builds up in the combustion chamber and the ignition is delayed, your furnace experiences a small gas explosion. This can be caused by low gas pressure, clogged burners, and dirty equipment. Quite similar to the sound of a boom, hearing a bang can mean the metal in your ductwork is expanding and contracting. To avoid this we advise that your furnace receives regular maintenance to ensure that it’s working properly and efficiently, and your ductwork gets inspected and cleaned. Routine maintenance can also extend the life of your heating system by several years. Click here to schedule a furnace repair service.

  2. Clicks

Click, click, click, this sound could make you sick! Most heating sources require an ignition to light the fuel. This can create clicking noises that are nothing to worry about. However, if you experience prolonged clicking with no ignition, or your blower turning on and off, then it is time to worry. This could mean your flame sensor is damaged! Having a damaged flame sensor could lead to carbon monoxide leaks that can cause sickness and even death. We recommend getting your furnace properly inspected and cleaned to prevent this. Give us a call or schedule a heating system repair or service online today!

  3. Rattling

Hearing metal against metal is never a good sign. This sound could be created from a damaged or loose blower and can be easily fixed by tightening screws or wheel replacement. Don’t ignore, call and schedule your furnace maintenance!

  4. Squeals

Does your heart skip a beat every time you hear that shriek of a squeal? Your motor belt may be the culprit. This could be one of three things, but nine times out of ten it is your motor belt coming loose. Other causes of this sound could mean your shaft bearings are dry, or your blower motor has aged and needs replacing. All of these issues can be prevented with regular maintenance and fixed with our furnace repair service from Genz-Ryan.

  5. RumbleS

Rumbles and roars, these sounds are scary to hear indoors. Not to worry, the rumbles you hear throughout your house are just your furnace burning the oils that were left over from its last cycle. This noise could also be caused by problems with your flame sensor, blower motor, or burners, and is an easy fix by your Genz-Ryan technician.

If you hear any of these furnace noises or more, call Genz-Ryan! We are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so you can count on us to solve the heating equipment mystery and can fix, replace, and even conduct a furnace installation for your home.
